WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THERE
Adolescence is biology, not your dog going rogue. The part of the brain that handles impulse control and thinking things through is one of the last to mature, while the emotional part is fully online and often working overtime, so your dog has all the feelings of an adult without the brakes yet.
Smaller breeds often start between five and six months and are through the worst by twelve to fourteen months, while larger breeds tend to start later and can carry on well into their second year. Bodies, joints and hormones are all changing at once, which explains a lot of the wobbles (and why more exercise isn't the answer for a growing dog).
WHERE IT USUALLY GETS STUCK
Recall goes out the window
It isn't deliberate. Their brain is choosing reacting over thinking in that moment, so we go back a step, use a long line and make coming back worth it again.
New worries out of nowhere
Things they used to ignore can suddenly feel scary in adolescence. Giving them space and time, rather than pushing them through it, stops a wobble turning into a habit.
When to neuter
There isn't one answer for every dog, and vet advice has moved away from six months for everyone. It's a decision to make with your vet, based on breed, size and circumstances.

From Lexi's diary. Lexi's diary goes right through her teenage months, from training wobbles to the reality of adolescence at eight months. It's a good reminder that the dip is normal and it does pass.
