BREED GUIDE

YOUR FRENCH BULLDOG PUPPY

French Bulldogs were bred to be companions, and they take that job very seriously, so they're funny, cuddly and often want to be with you every minute of the day. Their short faces mean heat, exercise and harnesses need thought, and that love of their people means being left needs teaching early.

WHAT I'D START IN THE FIRST WEEKS

BEING LEFT

TEACH ALONE TIME EARLY

A Frenchie who's always had company can find being left very hard. Short spells on their own from the first week, with you coming back before they've noticed, set them up for life.

BREATHING

HARNESS, NOT COLLAR

Their airways are short, so a well-fitted harness rather than pulling on a collar is kinder. Walk in the cool of the day, keep play sessions short, and ring your vet if breathing ever worries you.

HOUSE TRAINING

OUT WITH THEM, EVERY TIME

Frenchies can be slow to house train. Go outside with them every single time, reward the wee straight away and keep to a routine, because a puppy left out on their own just waits at the door.
