WHY COACHING THE PERSON MATTERS
Working with dogs is only half the job, and most of us were never taught the other half. A client who feels judged, overloaded or unsure won't follow a plan however good it is, so the dog never gets the help you know would work.
After 30+ years of training dogs and their people, I can tell you the plans that work are the ones the owner can actually live with. This diploma teaches you how to build those plans with your clients (not for them), how to handle the hard conversations, and how to look after yourself while you do it.
THE EIGHT MODULES
1. THE CLIENT'S MIND
Client states, the stages of change and the barriers that stop people following through.
2. HOW ADULTS LEARN
How grown-ups take in new skills, and when to coach, instruct or consult.
3. LISTENING AND TRUST
Listening, questioning and motivational interviewing that keeps clients talking.
4. THE HARD MOMENTS
Shame, conflict, boundaries and knowing when to refer on.
5. PLANS THAT STICK
Homework, follow-up and plans that work for neurodivergent clients.
6. PROTECTING YOURSELF
Professional boundaries, burnout and confidentiality in day-to-day work.
7. DIFFERENT SETTINGS
Coaching across cultures, families, shelters, clinics and field settings.
8. FINAL CASE
One full case that brings everything from the diploma together.

WHO IT'S FOR
CANINE PROFESSIONALS
It's for anyone who supports dogs and the people they live with, whether you're a trainer, behaviourist, vet nurse, groomer, walker or working in rescue. You can be newly qualified or years into the job, because the coaching skills are the same and most training courses skip them completely.
Every module ends with a case-based assignment, and I read and mark each one myself within 7 working days with written feedback. Once all eight are passed your diploma certificate is emailed to you, and the study hours can be logged as CPD with your own professional body.
LOOKING AFTER YOURSELF TOO?
MENTAL HEALTH FOR DOG TRAINERS
Module 6 covers burnout and boundaries, and if that's the part that hits home, Mental Health for Dog Trainers goes much deeper. It's five modules on the mental load of this work, client boundaries and the cases that stay with you, with scripts and a workbook to build your own plan.
QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK
Who marks the assignments?
I do. I read every assignment myself and send written feedback within 7 working days, so you're never waiting on an anonymous tutor.
Is the CPD accredited?
The diploma isn't accredited by an outside body. It's around 120 hours of study, which you can log as CPD with your own professional body, and your certificate shows the hours.
How long do I have?
You get 12 months' access from the day you enrol. Fitting a module or two a month around client work gets you there comfortably, and you can go faster if you've more time.
Can I pay monthly?
Yes, you can pay €110 a month instead of the full €550 in one go. Choose the monthly option when you press Enrol now.
Do I need to be qualified already?
No. It suits anyone working with dogs and their owners, from new trainers to experienced behaviourists, because it's about the people side of the work rather than the training itself.
READY TO START?
It's €550, or €110 a month if you'd rather spread it, with 12 months' access to work through the modules at your own pace. If you've a question before you enrol, email hello@thetrainingofdogs.net and I'll get back to you myself.
