BREED GUIDE

YOUR POMERANIAN PUPPY

Pomeranians come from much bigger Spitz watchdogs, and that's still the dog inside the fluff. They're bright, bold and curious, they love to learn, and most will tell you about everything that moves past the window. That coat needs real care, and it shouldn't be shaved.

WHAT I'D START IN THE FIRST WEEKS

BARKING

THANK THEM, THEN CALL

A Pomeranian will bark at the door, the window and the post. Thank them for the first bark, call them to you and give them something to do, instead of shouting back.

THE COAT

BRUSH TO THE SKIN

The double coat mats underneath if you only brush the top. Brush down to the skin a few times a week, more when they moult, and don't shave it short.

KNEES

LIFT THEM DOWN

Kneecaps that slip are common in the breed. Use steps for the sofa and bed, lift them down rather than letting them leap, and keep them lean.
