BREED GUIDE

YOUR MALTIPOO PUPPY

Maltipoos are a cross between a Maltese and a Toy or Miniature Poodle, and they were bred to be companions. Most are affectionate, alert and quick to learn, which makes them lovely to live with, and it also means they can find being left hard and pick up a barking habit fast.

WHAT I'D START IN THE FIRST WEEKS

BEING LEFT

SHORT SPELLS ALONE

A dog bred to be close to people often struggles when they're on their own. Start short, calm spells alone in the first week, and build up slowly from there.

BARKING

SMALL DOG, BIG VOICE

The Maltese side often notices every noise. Thank them for the first bark and call them to you, rather than shouting back or letting them guard the window all day.

GROOMING

HANDLE GENTLY, OFTEN

That coat needs brushing for life and a groomer every few weeks. Handle paws, ears and face from day one, pair it with something nice, and stop while they're still happy.
