BREED GUIDE

YOUR CAVAPOO PUPPY

A Cavapoo is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed with a Poodle, so you get a soft, social spaniel and a bright, sensitive Poodle in one small dog. They're friendly and quick to learn, but friendly isn't the same as confident, and being left is often the big one for this cross.

WHAT I'D START IN THE FIRST WEEKS

BEING LEFT

ALONE TIME FROM WEEK ONE

Cavapoos are bred to be close, and lots of them find being left hard. Go and make a cup of tea and come back before the kettle's boiled, and build it up slowly from there.

VISITORS

CALM HELLOS

They want to greet everyone, which can turn into jumping and squealing. Reward four paws on the floor and let visitors say hello only once your puppy is calm.

GROOMING

LITTLE AND OFTEN

That coat needs regular grooming for life. Short, happy handling sessions from day one, with a treat for every brush, make the groomer far less of a drama.
