BREED GUIDE

YOUR CAVACHON PUPPY

The Cavachon is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel crossed with a Bichon Frise, so you get a soft, social spaniel side and a bright, bouncy Bichon side in one small dog. They're friendly to the bone, but friendly isn't the same as confident, and clever doesn't mean easy, so the first weeks still need a plan.

WHAT I'D START IN THE FIRST WEEKS

BEING LEFT

LITTLE AND OFTEN

Bred to be close to people, Cavachons can find time alone hard. Short spells on their own from the first week, built up slowly, teach them that you always come back.

GREETING

CALM HELLOS

They want to say hello to everyone, which can turn into jumping and pulling. Reward four paws on the floor and let people say hello only when your puppy is calm.

GROOMING

BRUSH, TREAT, STOP

That coat can mat quickly, so short, happy grooming sessions from day one are a must. A little brushing, a treat and stop, and build up slowly before the first groom.
